QuickPen/UA Software Training Partnership

What UA Locals Get

QuickPen International and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing, Pipefitting, Sprinkler Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, or the UA, have partnered to provide CAD software training to its 326,000 members in the United States and Canada.

QuickPenUnder the program, UA Locals are able to provide members with AutoCAD® and PipeDesigner 3D® training. The UA provides grants to Local UA halls to purchase computer hardware and QuickPen's PipeDesigner 3D® and Autodesk's AutoCAD® at discounted rates. QuickPen then provides hands-on assistance to install the software and provides free training to the local UA Instructors. The instructors then provide 6-week classes to apprentices and journeymen at their UA Locals.

UAQuickPen's Tom Stright, a former UA Instructor with Plumbers Local 5, with over 20 years of mechanical trade and industrial training experience, will provide QuickPen's installation and training to local UA Instructors. Stright brings a wealth of mechanical contracting and CAD software experience to the UA program. He has worked in nearly every facet of mechanical contracting, from Apprentice Plumber to Mechanical Coordinator to CAD Manager. Since 2004 he has been an AutoCAD instructor for the UA in Washington, D.C.
