QuickPen International Releases Vulcan 6XP Nesting and Cutting Software

New Features Increase Flexibility and Allow Customization

Englewood, Colo., May 26, 2004 — QuickPen International and its subsidiary Mechanical Data, Inc. have announced the release of Vulcan 6XP, the newest version of its sheet metal nesting and cutting software that powers Lockformer's Vulcan™ plasma cutting systems.

Based on Microsoft's .NET platform, Vulcan 6XP introduces a series of new technologies that simplify usability and provide for fast, easy customization and flexibility.

"Vulcan 6XP is a major improvement for the Vulcan system," said Allen Holman, Mechanical Data's President. "We totally re-wrote the software to make it easier, more flexible, and customizable for individual sheet metal production standards."

Vulcan 6XP introduces database technology and a powerful new grid-based interface, that gives users easy access to job data. Vulcan now incorporates QuickPen's scoping technology, giving users the ability to import and identify field information such as floor, drawing, or system. Scoping, combined with Vulcan's new job costing ability, lets users perform detailed analysis of estimated versus actual labor hours and material costs.

The software utilizes the latest telecommunications conventions to enhance connectivity. Users with multiple locations can access the Vulcan system and enter jobs to and from any satellite location. The Vulcan PPC software provides support for mobile devices such as PDAs, enabling users to input duct and fitting data in the field and either email it or upload it at the docking station.

Other updates include new, more flexible takeoff methods, advanced labeling capabilities, customizable user-created reports, and the ability to enter and track unlimited job, project, and fitting data.
