AutoBid: TakeOff Speed Tip

Every minute and every second counts - especially when you are sitting in front of the computer doing piping, plumbing, and sheetmetal takeoff and estimating.  Here's a quick reminder that may help you speed up your takeoff by eliminating unnecessary steps in your takeoff process.

If you're like me, when you do OnScreen View of TakeOff (OSV), you will take off a main, right click, and then hit "End Run".  Then, you'll right click and do your next command (Branch, Counted Items, etc) - that's 4 clicks.  But, you don't actually need to hit the "End Run".  When you go directly to your next command, we'll automatically end the previous command and start the one that you selected.  So, now, take off a main, right click, select your new command - and keep going.  We're down to 2 clicks.

When should you use the "End Run" command?  Use it if you are going to change any of the scoping information and you don't want to continue your current line or use it to select an item in the counted, area, and length modes.

It may seem like that's "just an extra 2 clicks" - but those 2 mouse clicks add up over the course of the day.  Give your hand a break - and happy estimating!
